Volunteer to Watch Out for Turkeys

DNREC seeking volunteer birdwatchers to report sightings of wild turkeys for 2010 survey

The DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife is looking for volunteer birdwatchers to assist the Division with an annual productivity survey on the location and number of wild turkeys in Delaware. This data will help biologists track the health, distribution and reproductive success of the state’s wild turkeys with the goal of ensuring a sustainable harvest of this treasured game species.

Beginning in early 1984, with support from the National Wild Turkey Federation, Division biologists released 34 wild-trapped turkeys from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Vermont into ...continued

NaturaLawn
by Christine K. LaMonica

I recently had the opportunity to have a chat with Rick Yates the owner/operator of the NaturaLawn Fanchise in New Castle County and his new Director of sales and Marketing Jonathan Clark. They also approach things differently, with a more thorough process. They initially test your soil to ascertain which nutrients it may be lacking, non-existent, or too plentiful. After they receive the results they customize your treatment and give you a thorough explanation of what your lawn needs and recommend a a treatment plan.

This testing is an essential step in their unique approach ...continued

trashstoppers2.jpg

DNREC’s TrashStoppers campaign to curtail illegal dumping in Delaware is bringing violators into sharper focus with additional cameras placed at dump sites throughout the state.

Within the next month, DNREC will have up to 20 cameras covering Delaware’s known dumping sites – with photographs of violators not only posted on the department’s website, but now distributed to all law enforcement agencies in the state through DIAC, the Delaware Information Access Center. Illegal dumping at Hay Road, New Castle County, June 6, 2010

Not only will there be more cameras arrayed against illegal dumping, but they will have greater capacity for identifying violators, according to Capt. James Faedtke of DNREC’s Environmental Crimes Unit (ECU). The latest...continued
