EDEN to Delaware

On Friday, July 16th DNREC Secretary and Department of Energy chair Collin O’Mara will be the keynote speaker for the first EDEN Project Fundraiser at the Milton Theatre from 6 to 8 PM.

Energize Delaware Now (EDEN) is a community service program of The Delmarva Community Wellnet Foundation. Goodwill Annual Awards Luncheon
by Christine K. LaMonica

Goodwill to Host June 22nd Green Drinks

On Friday April 30th, I once again attended Goodwill’s Annual Awards Luncheon. The event, in my estimation, is one of the most inspiring fundraisers in the area. It highlights the myriad of programs and community partnerships of Goodwill.

Everyone knows that Goodwill is where you can donate clothes, furniture and other household items and get a tax deduction. We are all aware that they have stores throughout Delaware and Delaware County. What many people may not know about is what Goodwill does with the profits generated by all of those stores.

Since 1921, Goodwill has been helping people to achieve their dreams of independence. Through Goodwill’s job-training and placement programs, individuals with barriers to employment develop the skills necessary to compete in today’s demanding workforce. Each year awards are given to individuals who, with the assistance of Goodwill, have improved their lives. The obstacles that these individuals have overcome, their amazing strength of spirit and personal perseverance is at once inspirational and humbling. There is no way I can do Goodwill justice in one article. I do however, have a solution, a way that you can see for yourself. ...continued

A Frank Look at Union Park

There are certain pivotal moments in one’s life when you experience something or meet someone who makes a positive impact. Yesterday, I was blessed by having one. I had the honor and privilege to sit and talk with Frank A. Ursomarso Sr. who I met at the Fisker unveiling on May at his Jaguar Dealership in Wilmington.

I knew Frank to not only be a “mover and a shaker” in the Auto Industry, but by reputation an honorable, gracious and affable man. I was really looking forward to interviewing him further about his role in facilitating Fisker’s move to Delaware and getting his perspective on the impact of the economy on the Auto Industry over the past few years. I had no idea that I was being granted an audience with a gentleman who, in my estimation, is a rare and unusual character.

Frank possesses a disarming charm and humility. The old school values and work ethic that he learned as a boy ...continued

GREEN BUSINESS

Certified Energy Appraiser Now on Staff at Energy Services, Inc.

ESI Company announces that Michael Smith has recently become a certified Insulation Energy Appraiser. To achieve this certification, he had to meet specific industry requirements, attend a rigorous training program and pass a certification exam offered by the National Insulation Association. As an Insulation Energy Appraiser, Mike is qualified to evaluate the thermal performance of insulated and/or uninsulated piping and equipment in a given facility. Field data is collected and processed through a sophisticated program allowing for documentation of actual Btu losses, translate those losses into dollars, and calculate greenhouse gas emission levels with current in-place insulation systems — important information for any facility manager concerned about energy efficiency.

In some cases, an appraisal may illustrate that a facility is doing everything right — all its piping and equipment are insulated to achieve maximum thermal efficiency. In other cases, ...continued
