Students Learn About “The Greening of Corporate America”

Jobs for Delaware Graduates (JDG) celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day in conjunction with its annual Competitive Events Conference at the Dover Sheraton Hotel on April 22.  Approximately 250 juniors and seniors from across the state of Delaware were gathered to compete in employment-related skills such as interviewing, telephone techniques, and problem-solving.  One special emphasis in JDG classrooms this year has been to educate students on careers related to improving the environment and resource sustainability.

Charter School of Wilmington Wins Envirothon Competition

Each team answered questions, reviewed specimens and took measurements in topics dealing with aquatic ecology, soils/land-use, wildlife, forestry and the protection of groundwater through planning. After more than three hours of testing, Charter School of Wilmington – Team 1 was crowned the 2010 state champion, the fifth consecutive win for the school.

Team members worked hard during the school year to prepare for the event. Each team member from the first place team was rewarded with a $3,000 per-year renewable academic scholarship from Wesley College and ...continued

This year's Show House took a green approach when many designers incorporated some the existing furnishings of the home owners into their finished rooms.

The kitchen was given a complete facelift by staining the cabinets a darker color and the room has been transformed from bland to ...continued (before & after photos)

Clothes 2 You - Eco-friendly Clothes Cleaners

This past Saturday at the 17th Annual Holistic Health Fair in Lewes, our booth was next to Clothes 2 You Cleaners, coastal Delaware’s only eco-friendly clothes cleaners. This gave me the opportunity to chat with CEO Fernando N. Guajardo.

I asked him how he got started and he told me quite frankly that a few years ago, weary of not being the captain of his own ship he decided he wanted to be become an entrepreneur. His research for a business with a niche market soon led him to a “wet cleaning business” that was for sale. In September of 2006 he became the owner of Clothes 2 You Cleaners.

Ever curious, I asked him how his life had changed since then. His first response was ...continued
